Monica graduated from California College of the Arts, San Francisco, CA in 2005.  She participated in 2006 San Francisco Open Studios just before moving to Amsterdam, Netherlands where she currently resides.

After relocating, having a baby, and generally taking advantage of a European backyard, Monica has recommitted herself to her work.  She continues to find her voice through painting while exploring a range of media and techniques.  She documents these adventures in her blog. Currently, Monica teaches design technology and visual arts at the International School of Hilversum, NL.

As a metaphor for my life, my paintings begin with a mess, and every gesture is an opportunity. I once believed there was only one right path to my ultimate, but over time I've discovered there are a multitude of possibilities. I eliminate all but a few moments; the essential fragments left from chaos. Sometimes I regret the paths taken, but I always find a solution. Once I am satisfied with this layer's story, a new chaotic mess appears. Over time there builds a context which inform its final composition. I am both building and seeking the painting's destiny, trying to remain in control.
