Exhibition 6 Sept-31 October

The Limbo exhibition at the Slade School of Fine Art was the culmination of work by recent graduates participating in the Slade Summer Art Education Residency, July 2019. Artists included: Araminta Blue, Jione Choi, Lewis Davidson, Farnaz Gholami, Elena-Andreea Teleaga and myself. During my residency, I created this installation of ‘falling leaves’ as a reflection on my time at Slade and on the precipice of change on which I stood, about to leave school; move house and embark on the unknown. I repurposed dyed canvas from a previous painting and cut the leaf shapes. I formed them with rsg and applied paint through various techniques.

Bow Arts presents Raw Materials: Plastics at the Nunnery Gallery.
Raw Materials explores the forgotten industrial history of plastic in east London around the River Lea. The exhibition reveals the story of east London’s central role in the invention and early development of plastics, showcasing some of the very first plastic objects alongside newly commissioned artwork which tells the story of this material’s remarkable journey. The project is supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, as well as by academic partner University College London.

I enjoyed taking part in researching the history of plastics. It was fascinating to get behind the scenes and visit the archives of MoDiP (Museum of Design in Plastic, Arts University Bournemouth) and the V&A, as well as learning about the combustive beginnings of this material. As a UCL student, I was invited to propose a work of art as a response to the archive visits. My piece, “While It Lasts,” was accepted and I am honoured to be a part of this exhibition.
There will be an extensive events programme in connection to this exhibition, including boat tours along the River Lea, plastic recycling workshops and discussions on the future of plastics. See Bow Arts’ Whats On for more information.

4 – 28 April 2019
We have followed vanishing borders. See how at the edge of the canvas the world unfolds. A language is being built into a distance. We have written our own departures. Far from the sharp limit of place, a horizon emerges and we dissolve.
With transience and movement comes a feeling of existing in a “third space” or non-place; belonging neither here nor there, and because of that, there is a search for an ideal place. Through a language that highlights the fluidity of identity and borderless space, we see a lapse of time: that of coming and going, of speed and stillness, fragments of being; and a deconstruction to re-construct elsewhere.
Private view: Friday 5 April 18:30 – 20:30
Artists’ talk: Sunday 28 April 14:00 – 15:00
